Biography

Adam Summey (they/them) is a composer, arranger, trombonist, and all-around noisemaker. They were born in Greenville, South Carolina in 1998. They graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelors in Music Performance with a Concentration in Composition and Theory in 2021 and are projected to graduate from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts with a Masters in Film Music Composition in 2025. Their concert works have been performed at the International Trombone Festival and the Charlotte New Music Festival and films they have scored have been featured at the International OUT at the Movies Film Festival.

Adam is creatively interested in anything strange, boundary-pushing, abrasive, or otherwise slightly off the beaten path. For film scores they have employed techniques including playing an ear of corn with a violin bow, burying a contact microphone in dirt, and recording the creaky metal door of a trash compactor. However, they are also interested in the smaller, more intimate possibilities of film music and everything in between! Currently, Adam lives in Kernersville, North Carolina.
